  • A standalone solar photo-voltaic compound lighting system is an outdoor lighting unit used for illuminating a compound or an open area.
  • Recent advances in LED lighting have brought very promising opportunities for application in compound lighting.
  • Combining LED’s low power, high illumination characteristics with current photo-voltaic (PV) technology, PV powered street light utilizing LED has become a norm in many places.

    A basic solar powered LED compound light system components are:

    • Solar Panel or Photovoltaic Module
    • Lighting Fixture – LED lamp set
    • Rechargeable Deep Cycle Battery
    • Solar Charge Controller
    • Light Pole

    The Solar Panel will provide electricity to charge the battery during day time. The battery’s charging is controlled by a charge controller. The operation of the LED bulb is controlled by a control circuit either by using sensors such as Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) or voltage or current sensor. All these components will be fixed on a pole.

    CHECKLIST PRIOR TO INSTALLATION

    • Check whether electrical power already exists:Bringing in standard power can be very costly.
    • Get dimensions of the area: Knowing how large an area needs to be lit is important.
    • What are your light level requirements: Do you need bright lights or lower light levels?
    • Where is the installation location: Knowing the sun hours available makes sure the system is sized properly.
    • How long does the light need to be switched on: Do you need them all night or only for a couple of hours?
    • What type of fixtures: Do you want something standard or more decorative? Both options are available.
    • Wind load ratings: Is the installation in a hurricane / strong storm-prone area?
    • What is the ambient temperature: For the LiFePO4 battery of the solar-powered street lights, the working temperature is between -20°C and +60°C.
    • No obstructions may leave shadows on the solar panel. With shadow on it, the solar panel may become an open circuit and won’t work.
    • No other light sources around. The other light sources around the solar street light may influence the light sensor.

    Warranty
    • The LED Solar street Lighting System shall be warranted against any manufacturing/ design/installation defects and performance warranty for a minimum period of 5 years.
    • The Warranty Card to be supplied shall contain details of the system supplied.
    • During the Warranty, we may replace any faulty components not performing as per the expected performances.

    Maintenance

    LED Solar street lighting systems require least maintenance. Solar lighting systems don’t require the same kind of maintenance that on-grid electric lights do. LED Solar system needs maintenance for:

    • Rechargeable battery: Visual check on charging indicators. Replace after 2,000 charging (5 years)
    • Solar panel: Clean once a year. Clean every year. Last up to 25 years
    • Charge controller: Replace after 5 years
    • LED bulbs: Illuminance check once a year. Replace after 5 years
